    I only read Snow Crash once years ago but I do remember the creepy underage sex stuff; I shouldn't be surprised he's a libertarian lol

    I'm emotionally too close to Stephenson as an author to rationally evaluate this article. Someone who doesn't have emotional stake in him being an unreproachable auteur tell me if this thing is fair.

      This is a pretty good read on Stephenson. His problem has never been his writing, and the piece doesn't criticize him on those merits. Stephenson is a libertarian ideologue, which is to say that he believes himself to be an apolitical rationalist. From the article:

      the desire to escape politics inevitably yields its own kind of politics, and it’s in Stephenson’s unexamined assumptions that the myopic contours of his worldview begin to reveal themselves.

      There is no other way to evaluate libertarian "rationalists" in any other way except that they should be lined up against the wall

      Definitely meet your heroes and subsequently cast them away
