Goddamn did I not expect that. So many moments I was literally laughing. Like, actually. Not a huff of air from my nose. Or a recognition of “oh yeah, that was a joke. Good job, funny man.” Like, actually had to stop cooking and set down the knife and laugh.

Couple of thoughts, in no particular order:

    • He hasn't lost his mojo
    • he kinda looks like shit
    • what's with his pink eyes? Hit a bowl before he went on? Awesome.
    • it really feels like the show and material from the late aughts. It felt very nostalgic, which is a credit to him and the writers
    • things are way different today where I can feel the disconnect between those old days where the show was funny and the contradictions were lower, compared to today where the system is even more decrepit and broken than it was back then. Like the tone was peak 2006-2007 but the content is today and how fucking shit this system is.
    • is he going to do this every week up until the election?
    • some typical lib shit at the end about how we need to put the work in after the election. Give me a break.

The difference between him and every other modern talk show host whose clips I sometimes watch is so fucking stark lol.

I was too young to catch his show back then. I’ve since gone and watched some clips but they obviously don’t hit the same.

And the lib shit you mentioned becomes even starker when you watch some other videos from this episode. On YouTube they put up an interview with a lady from the Economist and allows her to spew her economic ideology.

She’s talks positively about how different European liberalism is than American “lefty” liberalism. It starts with her saying it’s about small governments and individualism and bs and compares it, favourably, to Thatcher, Reagan, and Clinton - all while Stewart sits there agreeing.

Then she talks of the real threat being this liberalism being taken over in the mainstream by “big government” and social conservative type of people like Trump, Orban etc.

And how this segment of conservatives support Putin becuase he’s also anti-woke and that is why we must support Ukraine and NATO.

All while I’m sitting here thinking how is this different from any CNN anchor bringing on a “moderate” conservative who’s anti-Trump? It’s the same policies!

Oh yeah, during the woke segment, Jon says the old war between Capitalism and Communism is replaced by Woke and Anti-Woke.

      Give me a break.

These ghouls are all the same. Doesn’t matter if they call lthemselves liberals or “European liberals” or social conservatives or whatever the fuck. They are all capitalists.

It’s fun to laugh sometimes, tho. He’s only going to be hosting once a week. The rest of the time it’s some other white dude.

I didn't watch the interviews, I only had the stomach for the cold open.

What you said about being too young to experience the show when Stewart was originally on shook some more thoughts and feelings loose in me. I really think that, fundamentally Stewart hasn't changed.

It is absolutely the point of bringing him back onto the show, and he killed it. It was the Daily Show of 2005. It's back.

It's me that has changed. chomsky-yes-honey

I'm out of touch with what libs think. Is China anti-woke? Isn't that literally the same as what some shitbag like Maher opines about?

is he going to do this every week up until the election?

He's only going to be hosting on Monday's, I assume they're still doing guest hosts the rest of the time but I haven't watched it in like a decade.

What's the alternative to putting in the work before or after the election? Your alternative is to just give up to nihilistic hopelessness?
