The University of Florida told Campus Reform that Russia's invasion of Ukraine influenced the school's decision to take down Karl Marx's name.

"Given current events in Ukraine and elsewhere in the world, we determined it was appropriate to remove the name of Karl Marx that was placed on a group study room at the University of Florida in 2014," Hessy Fernandez, director of strategic communications, said.

Several Library West study rooms were named after historical figures including Benjamin Franklin, William Shakespeare, and Mahatma Gandhi. It now appears that all rooms have been stripped of their names and are now only referenced by numbers.

So this was a set of 20ish study rooms that they decided would be easier to meet up at if they had names instead of numbers. They labeled them A-Z, and found important historical figures for each letter, and someone managed to get :marx-joker: approved as the 'M' entry. So this isn't just them canceling Marx for being Russian, this is them canceling most of the pop-culture THINKERs of history for being on a list with him.

This is a right wing source, so they could be making shit up, but I wouldn't be surprised by this.

It's probably for the best that they've switched to a numbered scheme, otherwise the likelihood of a Jordan Peterson Study Room is too high with the current politics of Floridian academia.
