Jesus was after all literally killed by the religious authorities (or at least they had him killed if you want to be technical the Romans killed him). Mate, religious or not, people will 99% of times put their class interests first.
So that's why rich and middle class catholics hate Liberation Theology. Also, even if they are poor, their rich or controlled by the rich priest will tell them to hate that thing.
