Hyper individualized and competitive
An acceptable place to be violent and aggressive like
A place where you can punish others
You also have the delusion of bootstraps and that feeling of accomplishment when all you really did was go down a street
And then cops are everywhere
Also the separation from everyone around you. You’re encapsulated from the world, in your machine it’s just you versus everyone.
It is, but driving isn't that for everybody and it really shouldn't be
🙃Oh fuck!🙃 I didn't even read that part initially. I shouldn't skim like that.
I genuinely believe that when you get into a car, the air inside poisons you and turns you into an atomized monster.
"New Car Smell" is actually the plastics in the car off gassing their more volatile compounds.
I drive like I'm playing dark souls. Inch around every corner and assume everything is trying to kill me.
I never understand why people seem to drive more aggressively when it's raining and the roads are slippery
Man, all i do when i'm driving chill, follow the speed limit, signal properly, don't hog the passing lane, and try to give people plenty of space. Somehow, people think i'm the one breaking the law.
I Drive for work all I got to say is Americans don't even know how to drive and honestly in the most ironic imagignitive stalinist fashion they should have there car keys ripped from there hands at night by a bunch of men with submachineguns, Why? Do I say this 🤔 hmm well American call the passing lane the fast lane, if you don't know why that is an issue I will being seeing you tonight at 3am sharp, next issue zipper merging challenge impossible for Americans. Using a blinker and SLOWLY telegraphing your movement not blinker for two seconds and moving over. rant over I will still be seeing the fast lane people tonight.
As a fast lane user the fact most dmvs make onramps way too short to safely merge into traffic makes me actively hog left just to let people actually get on the highway.
That being said, I do merge over if anyones behind me and I have no one in front and I'm at my limit of speed I'm willing to go cuz I'm not a sociopath.
what if i told you driving actually inculcates reactionary, bucket-of-crabs behavior?
The worst thing about cars is that they are like castles or villas by the sea: luxury goods invented for the exclusive pleasure of a very rich minority, and which in conception and nature were never intended for the people. Unlike the vacuum cleaner, the radio, or the bicycle, which retain their use value when everyone has one, the car, like a villa by the sea, is only desirable and useful insofar as the masses don’t have one.
scream with the windows rolled up so no one hears their rage except their passengers.
If that isn't reflective of Western society...
The amount of people who think they’re special and very experienced and smart so they do stuff like text and drive, let go of their steering wheel to adjust their seatbelt or scratch their nose while on the highway, or drive 70 miles on a residential street is too high
One time I told a relative of mine to stop using their fucking phone and drive and they got upset with me and lectured me how they’ve been driving longer than I’ve been alive and don’t need any lessons from me
Two weeks later they got two tickets for speeding and had to pay over $900 lol
Partner drives, I hate it. They are a superb driver and I trust them completely. Other people? 😰
I get violently sick if I'm a passenger in a car for more than 20 minutes. If I'm driving, I'm fine and can last hours. Everyone I've been in a car with will drive erratically, take enormous risks, swerve around corners at 50mph, slam on their brakes at the last second. I don't understand the impulse. I drive slower and try to be more generous with space.
Also everyone seems incredibly angry while driving. Every other person on the road becomes a piece of garbage to be screamed at and/or called slurs. I'll bring up that driving seems to make them upset, but they deny it. They say other drivers make them upset without seeing the contradiction at all.
i've long said that drivers licenses should be significantly harder to get, and mandatory behind the wheel re-testing every few years. of course in america that would be unworkable for many reasons
