Several instances are currently spamming this community with garbage. We're trying to ban them all but new ones keep popping up. Our apologies but do know we are working on it.

We now just add the instances to the block list and purge the content, but we can't know which instance they will use next (I think). I currently don't know what else we could do. Maybe some more tech savvy admins can help with that.
Any news on what the group behind it is motivated by? Why target fediverse? :(
Since most of the spam is in Japanese, that makes me wonder if I offended a Japanese nationalist by discussing Imperial war crimes. It could be just a coincidence, though.
I suspect these are spammers exploring new venues/revenue streams.

We at lemmy.ml had to deal with them as well. We blocked several instances. The first three listed below are obviously run by the same people and claim to be “low-moderation” and accepting of lolicon. I see that these have already been blocked here as well 💯

This is clearly a pro-marxist and anti-imperialist forums so the people who are posting reactionary comments are obviously doing so to disrupt the website.
We need people to dunk on though! I'm okay with a trickle from time to time, give the Hexbear users someone to dunk on since everyone defederated them!
How bizarre… since they seem especially interested in this subcommunity that makes me wonder if I posted something to upset an anticommunist, but I’m guessing that I am simply unfortunate. Maybe spammers like the word ‘capitalism’ and that is why they are polluting this spot so hard.

They’re back. Also they must be self aware as they’re posting images of literal spam the meat product overlaid with the discord link they’re spamming.
it's a coordinated attack by some japanese kids in a discord server, it's bizarre. Not a particular attack on us but the fediverse.
