Post-childhood life expectancy from the paleolithic until the late 20th century was around 60 years.
That still includes accidents though. Like you'll live healthily into your 70s, but every year there's a 1% chance that you're stepped on by a mammoth or whatever, so on average you don't make it there.
My understanding is that they believe it's historically accurate. the thinking goes thus:
cavemen did not eat mostly meat but whatever

Iirc, that’s an average. If you managed to survive the intense infant/child mortality rate, you could have a life expectancy more comparable to today
Even if you managed to survive childhood, you'd still probably die before 60
