Neoliberals shouldn't have nice things. No, not even pixels.

Absolutely, what made r/place was its spontaneity, the absolute chaos that still persists even when people finally organize. The void, the rainbow road that started out as a 4chan false flag, the country flags fighting each other before settling into each mixing with each other in solidarity, the windows 95 taskbar, the unregistered hypercam, the giant Osu ball pissing the shit out of everyone.

If the first Place was old internet then the second Place would be web 2.0. Aesthetically better but lacking in creativity, meticulously planned, and predictable.

Yup. It was a fantastic little thing while it lasted, and was unlike anything done before. But you can't just do it again, that's not how these things work. It'll never be the same. The only way to do it again is to come up with a new cool thing for people to be surprised by.

It will be like Burning Man: the next times around will be more soulless and more walled off and pre-ordained by the ruling class.

Thanks to the lathe, there will now be a third Place and it will be Web 3.0, NFTs and all. :agony-minion:
