Honestly, come to think of it all major religion have a lot of focus on death and horrible suffering. Makes sense considering coping with those is a major selling point.
Primary symbol, sure. But when I was a kid in a Jewish Sunday school we were taught to perform a cheery reenactment of a guy getting hanged and eat pastries symbolizing his ears.
I'd cheerily reenact bad people getting killed too (especially for hamentashen) — seems a lot healthier than having a whole religion centered around a dude getting tortured to death "on your behalf" two thousand years ago lol. I get your point, just that Christianity's fixation on it leads to some super fucked up attitudes and beliefs
