Whole communities have been tricked into genociding themselves, and if we do nothing there’s going to be a big damn hole in the center of America with billionaire antlions at the bottom waiting to eat the whole thing.

It took awhile to reach middle of nowhere town where my folks live but once it did it ripped through and has been around pretty incessantly

We had no less than 5 people in my family die last year and I don’t even know how many “so-and-so’s aunt/brother/cousin passed away from the covid” stories I’ve heard. And no one is taking it seriously.

It’s like people out there take what fox tells them to be more authoritative on reality than their own lived experience.

It absolutely is some kind of weird Fox misinformation and I don't know how to combat it. I've had nearly two dozen relatives die of covid. Some nearly died and will still claim covid isn't real, or they're immune now. Half my relatives tell me they remember bombs going off around the country in the summer of 2020. A few told me they remember antifa riots in their hometown that the police had to exterminate. It's infected their memories somehow. They legitimately believe this stuff instead of real events in their lives.

the problem there is they're scared of entirely fictional things and completely dismiss legitimately scary things, like disease, racism, poverty, etc

There's apparently also a lot of people who straight-up do not know that you can get reinfected. They aren't testing for any illness after they've had their first infection because they think they're already "over with" covid. There is no political interest in informing these people about the decreased immunity given by the newer strains, so I expect this will also depress case numbers until reinfections are common knowledge (e.g. you know multiple people in your social orbit who have gotten covid more than once).

yup, the problem is that people who've already had it, will get sick again

and people who've never had it, may get sick in the future

I really hope you've found peace after losing your family members. That's horrifying what you've been through.

you're a better person than me I think, I want these healthcare executive ghouls and politicians to die. I'm furious with the entire system.

I actually want mandatory vaccinations for everyone who isn't immunocompromised or has some other legit excuse. I'm getting really tired of this. Most of my coworkers never got vaccinated. I've had both doses and two boosters and they call me an idiot. There are such massive conspiracy theories going around, one guy at work refuses to get vaccinated because some random person on tiktok said it causes erectile dysfunction. There's no social pressure anymore. People gain their social outlook through such random and disorganized sources it's difficult to get a baseline of clear reality with Americans.

Nearly everyone in my family refuses to get vaccinated, saying they just don't need it because they probably already had it and it's just a Chinese bioweapon anyway, not a real virus. I'm losing my mind out here. So much of my family is dead now. Fuck America. I hate this country with every atom of my body.

I know it sounds nutty, but I'm in Florida where our new cases are still rather low and you can't convince me there's not a non-zero chance that they're just randomly sending out false negatives for pcr tests. The state has fudged and withheld every other avenue of getting a clear understanding of the situation to the point I can't convince myself they're not massaging every opportunity they can get away with. And there is like no freaking masking, the only way our numbers can still be this low is if everybody is still walking around with immunity from the last obscenely high surge.
