many subreddits shadowban people who do "anti-establishment" rhetoric of any kind (i.e., they'll ban you, but in a way where you won't realize. You'll still be allowed to post, but no one will see your posts, and your posts won't get any engagement)
thousands of sockpuppet reddit accounts are owned by US intelligence, corporations, and other shady interest groups who upvote each other and create a false "consensus" that would not necessarily exist organically among the user base. Over time this false "consensus" succeeds in changing the minds of real posters because it appears democratic and organic in nature when it isn't.
