Yeah I've heard of having to make sure the chlorine levels are good. I'd imagine there's mechanical stuff that can go wrong or stuff that gets trapped in the vacuum. Did you have fun parties at least? Or get to swim in it a lot for exercise?
I had some decent parties. My dog loved it. And yeah, it was cool to come home from work and do laps. But, if you live anywhere with seasons, each season outside of Summer is an added expense, and time consuming. Pollen. Leaves. Covering the pool for Winter.
Then there's the plumbing.
And then there's the regular chemistry.
So yeah, it's a balancing act. When we moved I pretty much swore off pools forever. I have a hot tub my friend gave me and I installed and it's like 5% the level of effort to keep it going versus a pool.
Side note: Hot tubs are free on CL all the time. They're actually super easy to install, even if you do everything to code. Highly recommended.
