I'm pretty sure that the passing of NAFTA alone did more damage to West Virginia than the Sackler-family did. It's wild how much the Dems fucked over that state, and then just decided that meant that the people there were bad and didn't deserve help.
West Virginia wasn't even a swing state, but a long time Dem stronghold for decades until the early 90s when Dems gave up on it
