I think this sort of thing is a result of liberals trying to move farther left, but falling off a cliff because they have no understanding of class.
edit: I thought there was a whole thread, but to see the full context you have to go to the student's account and see the ensuing drama. This singular tweet is pretty fine on its own.
I'm going to butcher this paraphrase of Mao, but it's vitally important to ignore anyone on twitter with a custom cartoon avatar. Or any cartoon avatar.
The professor’s tone is passive aggressive. I’d like to see the original message.
I also don’t know enough about queer theory to say if her criticism is fair or not.
If you go to their twitter and look at the rest of the drama, the student is clearly in the wrong. I guess it's not so evident from this tweet alone.
Following this story on twitter has robbed me of a handful of brain cells
I'm realizing now that most of what I was objecting to isn't in this tweet in particular and came later.
The poster asked her queer studies professor a reasonable question, and the professor responded in a mostly reasonable way, albeit maybe a little condescending depending on the way the poster asked in the email they sent. That's not really the bad part.
The poster then went on after this tweet to make a clear effort to get the professor fired, which included publishing his real name and scheduling a meeting with the Dean of their college.
So, that's the bad part. Whatever legitimate grievances exist around the course syllabus, I think it's clear this is an absurd overreaction and basically an affirmation of what conservatives think the left is.

You should stop worrying about this because they're not going to be happy until we're all dead or Stepford wives
What the right thinks indeed doesn't matter, but the right's caricature of the left isn't necessarily a good look either (though sometimes it is).
Trying to get your professor fired for not including the materials you want?? You didn't take the course, you didn't read the materials, you don't know what the professor is trying to teach you. Who the fuck are you to heckle your way into re-writing the syllabus? This is shooting someone who might be a dedicated ally before you even met them.
You can do your project/paper/presentation on the thing you think your professor is missing. Show the class and the professor why you're right. OR maybe the professor is a chud or hopelessly stuck in the past - take the course, assemble the documents, complain afterwards. Otherwise you look like an asshole and nobody is going to listen to you.
I mean this isn't "the left", it's an 18, 19-year-old kid who's angry (and always for good reason) and the professor responded like a dick. Of course the student is going about it in a wrong way. We should be supporting these kids though and helping them hone their methods and their anger to direct at good sources. But this entire fucking thing is like a Ben Shapiro GOTCHA article, it's a nothing burger.
I'm not talking about this instead of talking about something more consequential, I'm talking about this instead of playing Minecraft
i wanted to see more context i guess, but i can't get passed a queer studies class not being intended to focus on minority cultures?? ????? like how??
The email (which isn't a carefully-worded PR piece, btw, it's personal mail) says that the representation of minority cultures is not the "first priority" when devising the syllabus, NOT that the course isn't intended to represent them. I.e. choosing what's on the syllabus is about themes, ideas, contents - not who the authors are, which smells like descriptive representation to me.
We need more context - and so does the student. You can't judge a course by skimming the syllabus, much less try to take down the professor. How the hell do you know what the class covers well before you even take it?
I'll be honest, even if you thought the professor was in the wrong, what did the student think he was gonna do? Just say "ah yes, you have opened my eyes, and now I will scrap the current curriculum while class has already started and formulate a completely new one based around your ideals." There's a reason why professors ask for critiques of the class after the semester is already over, it's because then they can actually make changes to them. She should've either dropped the course, or waited to give feedback at the appropriate time. Not dox the guy to her ravenous lib following.
What’s going on here? I haven’t the time and nary the inclination to try to decipher some lib’s Twitter thread.
Thank you.
We support the students during the Cultural Revolution, even if they’re libs. The prof is an obvious reactionary
So is the poster for coming for this, it's very borderline stupidpol witch hunting
