    I don't really consider pointing out the point of view of non-western powers as 'defending' them. So much of the framing around 'foreign policy' on the English language internet is deeply chauvinistic, and frankly any time I see someone hand-wringing about chinese or russian imperialism all I see is 'But what about the xenos (Asians) doing imperialism just as bad as us some time in the future?!"

    The US is vetoing UN resolutions to stop its vassal from genocide, and you're like "but what about Irans imperial aspirations, they're so like America!"

    Wake me up when China is enforcing austerity on developing countries like the IMF- rather than simply forgiving loans.

    At this point US 'foreign policy' is the same as British 'foreign policy' :to lose its shit at any large continental powers simply because they're big and therefore a threat. There's nothing deeper or ideological anymore, and it's really just projection of a western-focused worldview to think that everyone else is motivated in the same way or with the same goals.
