BREAKING: The Supreme Court says it is constitutional for Congress to exclude residents of Puerto Rico from SSI benefits. The decision is 8-1 with Sotomayor dissenting. https://t.co/0Lu2xYhbu2 pic.twitter.com/R2wRMOZlWW— Chris Geidner (@chrisgeidner) April 21, 2022
There is someone unironically saying to add 8 more liberal judges to the Supreme Court after reading this shit.
The fundamental argument behind this case is that Puerto Ricans don't pay federal income taxes, from which the SSI benefit is supposed to derive.
That said, when guys like Thomas are arguing this decision invalidates Fifth Amendment Equal Protections, yeah. I do see a benefit in stacking the court with people who disagree.
Obviously, actual leftists would be better than more liberals, but I could see liberals benefiting significantly from a stacked liberal court.
