Every version of the American flag represents colonialism, imperialism, and white supremacy. But if we were to do as OP describes, I suspect the old Betsy Ross flag would harken back to a time where expansionism wasn't guaranteed, and the circle of stars is evocative of a council.

It was sparked by proletarian riots and unrest but was coopted into a bourgeois revolution.
