Yes, I know that the flag have anti imperialist history that predates Batista's mafia state, but usually AES states would pick something much more overtly AES-sy instead of just settling with the old republican flag.

But by using the old flag, Cuba hilariously robbed the ability of gusanos to differentiate themselves from the existing revolutionary state. No dumbass "this is the real Cuban flag" meme because it's the same 🇨🇺 , no way for libs to include flag in their screen name because then they'll be supporting the Cuban revolution 🇨🇺, no way for alt history dork to make "world if neoliberalism win forever" without showing stalwart Cuba 🇨🇺.

:amerikkka: this but literally. Revolutionary America will spend billions of dollar to develop perpetually burning to adorn every flagpole in the country.

making a white supremacist symbol a symbol for communism and liberation would own them so hard though. also it doesn't exactly illicit the response of a swastika to the average western person

imagining a world where you see the american flag and feel pride as a leftist sounds legitimently hopeful though. maybe making it one large red or white star in the blue spot as a symbol for one struggle would be cool

        as always, death to america

Every version of the American flag represents colonialism, imperialism, and white supremacy. But if we were to do as OP describes, I suspect the old Betsy Ross flag would harken back to a time where expansionism wasn't guaranteed, and the circle of stars is evocative of a council.

You can get rid of that one 'cause reactionaries will be using the co federate flag to protest us anyway.

Ngl I kinda wish one of the AES countries add hamsic to their flag. :ussr-cry:

Flying that stuff over countries where the symbol is banned would be so funny.

Transnistria still has it on their flag lol. Also, not the country’s flag but the CPC flag does get flown quite a lot in China.

There were some poorly thought out socialist movements in the US that tried using the confederate flag, possibly for the same idea of subversion or not differentiating themselves, which is why there are a few pictures of Black Panthers hanging around guys with confederate flags

yeah that didn't work out so well

hilariously robbed the ability of gusanos to differentiate themselves

This cuts both ways. That's why some communists use the July 26th flag to show their support for Castro.

it's more that cuba right after the revolution wasn't necessarily as oriented away from the west and in a socialist direction as they are nowadays (they only became moreso once it was clear that the US would not accept a degree of freedom and sovereignty for the people of cuba). that's why the flag stayed the same old republican one
