At chess.com after things heated up in Ukraine - players with Russian flags had them removed with that bluish gray rectangle. If you mouse over it - you get that message a link to this - On The Invasion Of Ukraine.

As you can see - despite Israeli's genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza the Israel flag has no limitations and there's no link.

---

The blue diamond shows each of them has a paid account so they can change their flag if they want to. If you have a free account (like me) - you can't change your flag. I'm stuck with the American flag unless I pony up for a paid account.

government not people, folks, government not people

okay but i initially thought the grey was like a spoiler and if you clicked it it would reveal which side the user supported, that would be funny tbg, esp if you could do a non sequitor flag "i support Jamaica in the Ukriane War"

the grey was like a spoiler and if you clicked it it... non sequitor flag

That would be awesome. And I wish Reddit had that.

"What does it mean exactly that you support Jamaica in the Ukraine War?"

"It's okay when we do it!" is the bedrock of the West's moral compass. It's why they had to invent the term "whataboutism."

When I had a paid chess account I just used the International flag. Had some funny interactions with people thinking I was a Russian or Chinese trying to hide my identity.

People take flags so damn seriously. I'd use the international flag if I could.
