Reminder that Sam Bankman-Fried, (alleged) Ponzi scammer behind FTX (exchange whose products are banned in the US but advertise everywhere), is the largest donor to the Democratic Party.

I also suspect it's more related to lobbying (Dems have hinted at being crypto unfriendly, nip it in the bud) but his board has given money to the GOP as well.

I told y'all this would happen. If you'll put on your tinfoil hat with me for just a moment, here's my wild conspiracy theory: the end goal is to use NFTs as a sort of digital SSN so that all of your data - browsing history, shopping habits, private messages, GPS log, shitposts - can be immutably connected to your real world person through the blockchain. This is the end of online anonymity as we know it. It's the online equivalent of a panopticon.

the technology to do that existed before NFTs, and doing it on the blockchain would actually be less functional. cybersurveillance is already widespread, and the only thing preventing it from enmeshing into daily life as deeply as you describe is the incentives aren't quite large enough for enough powerful entities. the appeal of NFTs to the ruling class is not primarily as a means of control, but as a way to temporarily stem the declining rate of profit by creating value out of thin air.

Not tinfoil hat, that's what all the "smart" crypto people basically say is coming. NFTs being useless monkey pictures to trade fake value is the good timeline. Hell world is where every document/contract you sign is an NFT -your lease is a smart contract that locks the doors if you don't pay (or your deed with property taxes, so if your landlord doesn't pay, you're out), your car can only start if the NFT says it can, etc.

can be immutably connected to your real world person through the blockchain

they already found a more efficient way to do this, they just require you to input your phone number instead.

Time to rewrite "California Uber Alles" again but with Newsom.
