I picked up the hobby over the pandemic, and I was curious to see what other people think of it. Is it an over pretentious method when compared to traditional fishing methods, or do you feel that it offer a unique way to target fish. Obliviously the same moral issues for traditional fishing occur, such as stressing fish or unintended fish deaths (even when practicing catch and release).

It's strictly inferior to regular fishing with a bobber and an eight pack of beer, but fine in the grand scheme of things, pretty cool even.

I very much enjoyed it when I did it, but it's been like a decade now and my rod is gathering dust. It was much more interactive than regular fishing which I enjoyed. I'd love to pick it back up if I had the time though

I have had more fun fly fishing for bass. I have tried trout fishing but can't really get the hang of throwing tiny nymphs or dry flys. Throwing steamers is alot more fun for me.

Fly fishing for bass sounds like a ton of fun. I really need to start fishing again

Although :im-vegan:, I do have a fascination with fishing and a lot of small town fishermen I met are pretty chill people.

I even caught a few bass before I went vegan but all of it was done in the sense of a "ha ha, look at this cool fish" kinda way, as kid me thought fish had no pain receptors in their lips for whatever reason, so unfortunately I can't really have an opinion on it.

If I were to fish in the future, I'd probably target invasive fish like Lionfish in the Atlantic or Asian Carp. To me, I kinda believe that fishing them is for the greater good, especially if it's local and I'm in the area, but I think this might be a better question to pose to strugglesession.
