Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins
Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)
Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.
Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.
Yesterday's discussion post.
As far as I know, right now there's no official statement that gas is being cut. It comes from a Finnish newspaper which said Russia threatened this, and then other Finnish and non-Finnish media circulated this. Of course, it was given the implication that 1) gas is being cut and 2) it's because Finland is joining NATO.
However the same newspaper Iltalehti posted this article later. But later in the article it is mentioned that Finland doesn't want to pay gas in rubles when the next payment date comes. (I actually thought they already acquiesced.)
I wonder if these articles about gas cut-off and NATO membership are so that Finnish people can be primed to blame Russia when Finnish politicians choose not to buy gas in rubles. Don't pay for gas, don't get gas, it's the rules to capitalism. 🤷♂️
Separately, a Russian electric company cut electricity exports to Finland citing problems with payment due to sanctions. Finnish media thinks the timing is suspect.
