It's been a while since I read anything about it so I don't have any links off the top of my head, but if you look at all the klan's ranks and stuff it's all just stupid - empires, realms, dominions, imperial wizards, grand exchequers, grand scribes, hydras, grand dragons, grand giants, goblins, furies, etc & so forth. In the 1800s whitey could sit back and feel secure that those silly boys putting on white sheets and riding around like hooligans calling each other goblins were just goofballs. Meanwhile the black people you never spoke to on the outskirts of your shitty little town would be terrorized and persecuted and the whites who weren't involved in the KKK never had to see shit. They could pretend like their cousin was just some nerd playing at fantasy bullshit and drinking with his other useless friends on the weekends instead of the terror organization they really were.
