Legit typing out reform vs revolution via capeshit mockery. I'm watching it very critically and they haven't missed once this season yet

I disagree entirely. While the 80's flashback did explain the Iran Contra they still made the indigenous movement "Russian ASSETS." Which has been the imperialist playbook since forever. It can't be that the material conditions were so bad that a revolutionary movement arose. Central America was a peaceful place where latifundistas treated their peasants well, until the damn ruskies started brainwashing our Indians with divisive ideas. Considering the violence the contra's committed it borders on the genocide denial.

Now it did got me thinking how you would approach the 80s nostalgia thriller where reds kidnap red blooded Americans without erasing third world agency and making them nothing more than Soviet puppets. And I think I figured it out. A fictional version of the Zapatistas where the disappeared American turns out to be a subcommandante Marcos type figure.

I remember seeing a video on the Sandanistas, and they briefly interviewed some former Soviet foreign ministry dude. They asked him if the USSR was behind it and just way he responded... it's hard to describe exactly but it was just perfectly dismissive as well as him almost finding it humorous he was even asked that question.
