The Kcnq2 gene encodes for the Kv7.2 protein, a slow-acting, voltage-gated potassium channel that plays a critical role in the regulation of neuronal excitability
glutamatergic drugs VS old anti-depressants which focus on short term neurotransmitters
The researchers then tested ketamine’s effects in combination with an epilepsy drug, retigabine, known to activate potassium channels in the brain. When the drugs were given together, ketamine’s antidepressant effects were significantly enhanced.

By revealing a new mechanism of ketamine’s action, the study may make it possible to expand the use ketamine-based drugs. This, in turn, might help these drugs fully deliver on their promise of providing new hope for depression.
boomer millennials: "in my day, we had to treat our depression with a drug that forced you to reckon with ego death and jump down into the timeless abyss from which all existence was generated"
This sounds similar to phenibut, although it works on the GABAb calcium ion channels! Super cool that we're finding out this stuff, good to know HOW ketamine helps people.
calcium + i think is sort of a secret back door to helping chronic pain without going for the mu-opioid or COX receptors
Calcium + what? I should probably up my calcium intake just for general health.
Pretty sure calcium+ refers to calcium ions
Got it, ty!
i typed out the dorky shorthand on accident. the + meant positive ion. calcium ion channels
It has been years since HS chem
i hated chemistry it wasn't until i got out and started experimenting with drugs suddenly my friends expect me to be the resident amateur neuroscientist to keep them alive lol.
Hard same tbh
Phenibut? I did that stuff once, felt like I was drunk kinda, it was pretty fun but I didn't really want to do it again and I didn't know what the long term side effects were
Its bad news dont do it stay away
Why do you say that
Its similar to a benzo. Not fun to get off of.
Oh jeez
Phenobarbital? I did that stuff once, felt like I was drunk kinda, it was pretty fun but I didn't really want to do it again and I didn't know what the long term side effects were
