and the lifespan. Squirrels live 10+ years if something doesn't kill them. Rats live like 2.

The rock squirrels at the grand canyon are awesome. I watched them run this operation to steal food from campers where a couple of them would perch up on high ground keeping look out, send one down as a distraction, and another one would sneak up from behind and try to snitch whatever food/packaging was exposed and unattended. If you looked at the one trying to be sneaky one of the lookouts would chirp to signal to the sneaky one that its cover was blown and it would scamper off and they'd wait until people seemed distracted to try again. Lost a bag of freeze dried stroganoff before i woke up but it was worth the entertainment the rest of the morning. Apparently they attack people sometimes but the ones i encountered just wanted to snack and relax in the sun.
I get so self conscious when the fuckers get mad at me and just throw stuff at me and chirp from the trees. I respect it though
Yeah if they're in a tree branch above you sometimes they get pissed and start launching stuff in the tree at at you, usually nuts
