And, it is probably part of the broader psychological denial of the gruesome history of bloody violence, on which modern Western capitalist hegemony is founded. 
That game is actually good for a western because it acknowledges that westward expansion is genocidal. And it shows that escalating brutality is directly correlated with escalating presence of Pinkertons and cops.
