    @TankieTanuki I was gonna say; that's the thing of it though. I have a reasonable stash of money sitting around because of all the mandatory overtime I get; but I will absolutely never actually get to use it to do anything interesting, because the job is structured under the assumption that you got married & had kids straight out of highschool, and now you can't do anything but work there to support a family.

      This is the true meaning of “family first”. It’s half the reason I started my career over kinda late. Better late than never though, 100%. I’m so much happier

        TBH, I wasn't able to get regular employment of any kind until I was about 26, I never managed getting a college education, and I'm gonna be turning 30 this year; so I'm mainly stuck where I'm at. At this point he plan is to wait until my grandfather kicks it, and hope that him being Silent Generation & living more comfortable than just about anyone else I've ever met (in that he has never expressed any degree of concern about money) means that he has :stonks-up: money that I might get a slice of.

        Aside from that I seem to be generally powerless to effect meaningful change in the circumstances of my own life.
