I think most trans people can attest that gender affirmation can come from weird places. You can acknowledge that something isn’t inherently gendered or doesn’t need to be gendered while also acknowledging that you yourself experience it as gendered. Sometimes that might be rooted in some weird sexism, but you can absolutely pick that apart for yourself if you want and it usually results in you enjoying the thing you already enjoyed in a way that’s more self-actualizing anyway.
In other words, as long as you’re not projecting weird hole digging expectations onto others, digging a whole is absolutely dudes rocking
If a shovel sparked gender euphoria for me, I’d have a trench around my entire property by now. And if cis men approached their own masculinity half as thoughtfully as trans men, the world would be a better place. Potentially full of holes, but better.
