Recovery falls into the scope of /c/self_improvement.
I think we should, however, have a something like /c/harm_reduction. The scope of a comm like that may be a bit too NSFW for Hexbear Dot Net, so, what a coincidence that I’ve been thinking how lovely it would be to have a harm reduction/totally-fictional-stories-about-illicit-drug-use Lemmy instance, which will eventually expand in scope to become like a forum for the dirtiest among the dirtbag left—not Bong Water Bolsheviks, but fucking Strung Out Stalinists, bitch.
I agree with you. It's bugged me for a while that there aren't really any explicitly leftist recovery programs. Like AA/NA are based almost entirely on dogma, they might as well be cults. A materialist perspective on addiction looks a lot a bit different. Simplest way I can sum it up is; we use because our lives are bad, we're ALL alienated and unfulfilled under capitalism, no wonder people become writhing husks of excessive consumption.
