I have chronic lower back pain from an injury 10 years ago. I’m recovering from flare ups way more slowly now that I’m in my 30s. And now I tore a hamstring from the exercises/stretches my physiotherapist put me on.. it just compounds and gets worse and worse
Pulled a muscle in back half a year back while deadlifting and after having sunk money into MRI, X-ray, physiotherapy and medication and resting amply it is no better thanks to doctors in private hospitals not giving a fuck.
God damn this isn’t what I needed to hear right now hahhaha. How is your mobility now? I don’t know how much longer I can take this. Just getting around my apartment is rough right now
Shout out to our disabled comrades because this shit is absolutely fucked. Not being able to clean or get groceries or just go for a walk is taking such a toll on my mental health
do you have belts? you should absolutely have some belts and good shoes if you have lower back issues. dont ever work out without it so that you dont reintroduce the injury
they make some 'girl sized' :yea: ones that i use since im tiny. i use it to help with my terrible balance. if you can get over them being marketed towards women and being pink or something silly you can do that
im telling you, it makes a huge difference. bf got injured once and he eventually recovered because we got him a nice belt. probably not as bad as your situation but it can make doing some exercises less anxious for you
I’m glad your mobility is OK at least! But yeah chronic pain is horrible. I reallyyyy feel you on the impotent rage
I’m not sure it’s torn. The doctor I saw didn’t grade it, they just said to give it 5-6 weeks. I’m at 3 and a half weeks in and I feel like it isn’t getting better, but I’m in a really pessimistic place right now so the outlook might be better than I think
Thanks comrade, I really appreciate it :stalin-heart:
Here’s hoping we’re other pain free soon
Yeah, take care of yourselves comrades. Your body does a lot of hard work so don't take it for granted
I mentioned this in another post here recently, but I also had a back injury from some fucked up form for a single rep. Got the MRI, looks like it's spinal stenosis. I ended up going to PT and, surprisingly, we found a way to keep the pain away pretty much all the time. I have to basically work my back out once every two days, but I basically do a back excercise every day now. That being said, idk how long this will work for but I'm just enjoying the pain free moments right now. Let me tell you, chronic back pain is fucking hell. It is important to warm up, and if anything gets sketchy to just put it down and walk away. It's just not worth it.
Alternatively, you could just keep weight relatively low. Although I did my injury at a low weight
whenever my bf complains about something hurting after a workout i buy him new safety equipment and we go over his form :meow-hug: i have a checklist and a clipboard, very official
totally recommend belts, wrist guards, knee guards, and those shoulder things that keep your posture tight. he lifts so much weight and is so big that i take no excuses from him, one slip up could totally smash a foot or something. got him special shoes for lifting and everything. that one was hard to find we went through like 5 brands of shoe till we found something that really worked
really do not underestimate wrist guards. our society puts so much strain on wrists when it comes to computers and stuff and then of course if you work out a ton that just adds more strain. he does so much better and can reach higher weights by taking care of his wrists
What kind of wrist guards? I have really fucking annoying wrist pain that goes off and on, I can't even do a bunch of my hobbies anymore because of it
benefit is gonna vary person to person, people have differently shaped wrists. requires a lot of trial and error
True, but I'm desperate. I have these wrist braces but they're kinda shitty and the velcro is going, not sure if I wanna buy more either. I guess, are you talking about wrist guards like you would wear when skateboarding or something? Or a brace?
def recommend against velcro. straps with buckles are better and last longer
we have braces, those for skateboarding, and there are weightlifting ones. just google it for the weightlifting ones. we also have some for keyboards that he uses. like i said, he can lift a frankly absurd amount of weight, like nearly 1k pounds, and could win competitions if he wanted so we're sort of minmaxing his joint stress to make sure hes reducing it at all times. hes gonna be exercising like crazy no matter what so i just make sure hes safe
Deadlifting is dramatically different depending if you're talking to an olympic weightlifter or body builder. Olympic weightlifting is a sport that requires the athlete to have a high degree of mobility, flexibility, and posture control in order to lift the weight overhead. This reduces the chance of injury significantly. In contrast, body building is a sport where the goal is to build muscle mass. This often leads to athletes using poor form in order to lift heavier weights, which dramatically increases the risk of injury.
Be careful out there, I hurt my shoulder about 11 years ago when I was 23 lifting a dumbbell and it still hurts from time to time.
I found that some Crossfit gyms are actually run by knowledgeable athletes with a real understanding of exercise physiology, rather than just 'bro military guys'. Olympic weightlifting classes at these gyms can be pretty good.
Damn I just realized despite Canada being not much less of a brutal hellhole that at least I don't have to worry about getting injured and having to take out 3 mortgages to pay off medical bills.
just make sure to stay militant so that whatever public infrastructure is there does not slowly end up being privatised
That is what's happening right now.
