My fridge stopped working and I'm too anxious about having strangers in my apartment to get the landlord to fix it. I know we have some crafty comrades here - any tips on DIY fridge repair?
It's a pretty slim window between "maybe" and "definitely not"
For example - if it's something simple, like ice buildup on a fan, you could just take all your food out, unplug it for a few days and let the whole thing defrost and then it should work.
But, if the fans work and it's just not getting cold, you will need a technician to look at the refrigerant system. You do not want to mess with AC systems without training.
I got lucky with mine and just had to replace a $20 relay. Something like that is usually pretty simple to fix, but if there's a problem with the condenser or compressor then that's something that needs a specialist or just a whole new unit
