Oh, I'm totally aware of the tendency to explain away uncomfortable things by blaming mental illness, and I'm definitely not in any position to say anything for sure here, but it just really reminds me of the common theme of people you know/celebrities having been replaced.
Then again, stuff like Qanon is at least this batshit, so it's not as though this kind of thing can't be brought on by social conditions
