    Back in the good old days if you captured a slaver you could establish the facts

    "Were there slaves on the ship? Was this guy on the ship? He's a slaver".

    And then hang them.

    Just like that. No courts, no complications. Just dead slavers.

    Fun fact: The US has held this applies to torturers too. I'm sure there's some very important legal principle that prevents this from applying to the director of the CIA though.
