It’s crazy how much the people who designed our electoral system just did not understand the system they were designing. They understood the broad strokes, but there are so many little cases like this. Some of the founding fathers were legitimately convinced that it was possible to avoid political factions. And then they made voting First Past The Post, which pretty much guarantees a two party system full of strategic voters.
