ai is gonna like take over the world everybody. just wait for agi bro I'm telling ya dog.
the thing is, a really good joke has at least a little bit of transgression, and every single sharp edge is carefully sanded out of these AI things in order to make it into a shiny marketable product... I think it's literally impossible for it to be funny on purpose to any reasonably intelligent adult
I think the last truly funny thing an AI has put out was the bottomless pit greentext:
Showand I think it was only funny because it still had a little bit of edge and had human input steering it into a funny direction... also, the quirkiness of the text, all that weird repetition, only contributes to make it funnier, so it's not entirely on purpose
I believe that humor is beyond the capabilities of AI now and for the foreseeable future
I think the fact that it's just a little bit surreal is also important. If you remember back in the early days of generative art the images that everyone were initially captivated by were all HR Gieger-esque horrors, which were improved by being close to realistic looking but not quite there yet.
edit: this was also a big draw in the early AI Dungeon era, the fact that the game would make absolutely wild connections and go on unexpected tangents and suddenly introduce sexy vampires into every story.
exactly, the AIs that are available now are much more advanced and sophisticated, but they're also worse than they've ever been, due to the fact that they're really fucking boring
I remember fondly the days of going on dall-e and asking for an image of a Jeffrey Epstein Funko Pop or CCTV footage of Jesus stealing a bike, and that was fun as hell because it was stupid and not even close to realistic or marketable
lmao such absolute garbage. can't believe this is the next hyped thing
I wanna write a cyberpunk novel where the joke is that everything sucks and doesn't work.
