Egghead has blown away every expectation I've had towards a typical OP arc, it's been pure pedal to the metal

not three chapters ago i was still thinking "wow the luffy v Saturn fight is a crazy way to start going through the five elders, wonder how many more arcs until they're all done." and now they're just literally all there and one of them is even Shai-hulud

The sandworm is the most out of pokect one, I hope Oda watched Dune and just decided it would be cool

honestly, i feel like Oda might have read the Dune series back in the day. this is also the only one that isn't a yokai traditionally.

    huge ass spoiler

this also all but confirms that Imu is an Umibozu. to quote wikipedia:

Umibōzu (海坊主, "sea priest") is a giant humanoid black figure of a yōkai from Japanese folklore. Other names include Umihōshi (海法師, "sea priest") or Uminyūdō (海入道, "sea priest"). Little is known of the origin of umibōzu but it is a mythical sea-spirit creature and as such has multiple sightings throughout Japan. Normally, umibōzu appears to sailors on calm seas which quickly turn tumultuous. It either breaks the ship on emergence or demands a bucket or barrel from the sailors and proceeds to drown them. The only safe way to escape an umibōzu is to give it a bottomless barrel and sail away while it is confused.

it is also absolutely possible that luffy escaped Imu in Chapter 2

reminder that this is imu in the middle here

Makes me wonder of Imu has an umibozu devil fruit or if they are an actual umibozu. The Gorosei look like awakened Zoans but they seem different to all the other Zoans we've seen, so maybe they're something else?

i have no clue honestly. i like the idea that imu is in some sense an actual umibozu. Gorosei zoan teleportation seems very op, i don't have any clue what's up with that either. other than that it's cool.

I'd wager that they are actual devils and that they are the precursor to devil fruits since the five elder planets have multiple abilities. I've also read online that the Gorosei are a foil of the Vegapunk satellites so the theory that Imu is the inventor of all devil fruits is still very much possible.

i've come across that theory in the last couple days and i think it's intriguing. i've also seen the similar theory that transforming them and teleporting them is related to imu's devil fruit.
