I feel like they have so many plotlines and scenes to keep up with that she has become a character without agency and is therefore being treated like an object of desire/control for this fashlet and MM. Of course, they might go full "the call is coming from inside the house" next season. With the wife cutting off all contact from MM (say episode 1 or 2) just for the asshole to go full on abuser mid season, and the resolution ends with the wife or MM directly killing this guy - hopefully the wife ends up doing the retribution. This is kinda of a problematic storyline as I am typing this, but sounds like what the writers have in mind.

If she’s comfortable with it and/or it isn’t a dealbreaker for her then MMs (and more importantly the audience’s) frustration should really be directed at her, especially with step dad basically admitting point blank he’s doing parental alienation.

This right here would be an even more critical view of parenting. That sometimes one person is politically conscious and your partner can just fall by the wayside or becomes a piece of shit during the process of divorce.

Monique could just divorce the fascist and keep a healthy co-parenting arrangement with a redeemed but not romantically involved MM. That could be a nice lead-up to the fascist ex being a forgotten reject and possible domestic terrorist in a right-wing militia for Homelander.

Or they can keep up the divorced dad stuff.
