A federal, universal, single payer school system with per student funding and no segregation by area codes or any other method.

i think you probably want to do something to limit student commute time, but I also think the US should reduce the student:teacher ratio by a third and build or repurpose whatever buildings you need to do to make that happen, which would reflect existing segregation but remembering being a kid, I'd much rather have an extra hour of sleep every day.
