I hate to be that guy, but mining is still super important. Like look around you. If it doesn't come from a plant it came from a mine. There's many medical devices which rely on material from mines, modern electronics rely on mines, etc.
I know that's not the point, but this still isn't good.
Also, if they want more genz workers they should actually give them decent wages lol.

If so, it's probably not so much the money that's an issue, rather the absolute shittiness of the working conditions.
