so yes, it is not a coincidence that queer acceptance and decolonization go in sync in ukraine these days. because they are intertwined within the ultimate queerness of being a ukrainian

just kill me :agony-limitless:

Even American regime mouthpiece Freedom House acknowledges the climate of fear around being queer in Ukr https://freedomhouse.org/sites/default/files/2021-07/FH-AnnualReport2020-EN_v03.pdf

Also, neoliberal prescriptions continue to fail at social equality: "On the state level, despite smooth cooperation between Roma NGOs and the authorities, Ukraine implemented no effective measures to minimize anti-Roma attitudes. Similarly, there is no progress in proper response to hate crimes against Roma and other vulnerable groups. On the contrary, the situation keeps getting worse."

Peace Corps has a page dedicated to non white, non straight, non cis, and female volunteers who plan on traveling to Ukraine.

They warn people that you’re likely going to experience racism and all kinds of -phobias, but it’s okay because you’re doing it for a good cause lol.

It is not uncommon for Ukrainians to refer to African-Americans as “[N-Word]”. Volunteers of color may be called 'a monkey' or may see children’s games with Blackface. Being aware of the history of dehumanization for people of African descent may help inform where this comes from

Yeah I’m sure black people who are upset by the N word don’t know the history of dehumanization for black people of African descent
