Seed oil is one of the latest health 'bogeyman'. You'll see all sorts of wild claims about how bad it is, and wild conspiracy about them making us eat it. Probably a nugget of truth in that its probably not great, but I'm skeptical of it being worse for you than beef tallow.

Regardless, McD's used to use beef tallow for fry oil, meaning their frys and hashbrowns have been meaty for a while. The recently switched to using seed oil in the US. FWIW, they've been using seed oil outside the US, where people want to avoid beef more often, for a few decades now.

Ah, my bad; I searched it up, as I had been told they weren't vegan/vegetarian due to the tallow, but you're right, I misheard or misremembered.

However, they do still have beef flavor in their oil to this day in the US (or so a quick google search tells me), meaning they still are not suitable for vegans, or Hindus for that matter. I have been told that they don't put the beef flavor in there internationally, but I'm not sure

Hydrogenated vegetable/seed oils tend to not be great for your health, especially if you're an individual who is eating McDonald's for lunch everyday.
