I double and triple checked whether I was on any lists of likely nuke targets and then checked nearby targets for damage radius. I'm probably ok but it'll be a bit hairy and I don't know how safe from radiation I might be afterwards depending on wind directions.

Totally serious. Not that it'll do me any good knowing this.. Maybe I'll be a bit calmer about it. Absolutely no idea what I'd do in the aftermath, getting anywhere would be a nightmare of navigating potential targets and radiation. Maybe try and run to ireland but getting there would be very hard.

Isn't this if you assume that all missiles/rockets make it to target and detonate?

There is nowhere in the US that would be safe from fallout. Bases on the west coast, nuke silos all over the middle, major cities in the northeast.

Probably best bet would be to head as far north or south as you can depending where you're starting

Fallout if usually a major issue for just 48 hours iirc, although we don't know how that would change in the case of a multiple-strike event

But yeah if you can get underground and stay there for a bit you should be mostly ok

Would Alaska or Hawai'i be safer? Then again, might as well just flee to Canada if you have access to Alaska.

No way, AK has nuke silos, plus a ton of interceptors and long range missiles. HI has "defensive" missiles and likely nuke subs and massive military presence, like the largest reserve fleet. HI would be fucked, again, in a conflict with the east.

She's actually visiting several Asian countries and the island is a possible stop. Neither the white house nor her office has confirmed that she's actually visiting Taiwan. She could just end up doing a tour of Japan, Singapore, etc and then fuck off back home.

exactly this happens, but then US media does a victory lap anyway and accuses China of blinking first

TBH, I've stopped giving a shit about US media. They can blast their crap around in their echo chambers for the millionth time if they so choose, I'm satisfied so long as this episode concludes without a military incident.

It's gotta be the second, right? Like surely Taiwan at least is smart enough not to pull this stunt.

I dunno, these are US airforce planes so they be doing whatever they want. I wouldn't be surprised if some semiconductor baron that wanted to meet her in person was on one. Zero certainties though.
