very conservative
opinion automatically discarded. i understand being a hypochondriac but you should never listen to these people, especially about medical science. they flatly don't believe in it.
everything else you've said
she’s a science teacher
:internet-delenda-est:
that's gotta be incredibly hard to deal with, especially suffering from hypochondria. i would just try to bear in mind that there is a massive replicability crisis with scientific studies as well as a smaller (albeit still prominent) issue with ideology-driven studies being performed. add that to your mother's admitted bias (both in the information she's searching for and what she's likely to accept) and the likelihood that she's arriving at the right answer hovers safely around 0%.
Confirmation bias, she is clearly ignoring the majority of studies and focusing only on the ones that affirm her views
:this: I have a conservative family member who studied nutrition, but still fell for the soy boy thing (among holding other VERY unscientific views)
Does getting vaccinated/boosted actually increase your chances of getting reinfected?
no et dznt stfu 2 dai old accnt
gud :bait: tho u r a talntd sealion
ask her what mechanism of action she is proposing is responsible for this, i.e. how does jumpstarting your immune system's ability to recognize and respond to the spike protein, which is what the vaccine does, somehow result in one being more likely to be reinfected rather than less? When it also results in less severe illness when infections do occur
looking it up no it decreases chance of reinfection. Your mom might have just concluded that herself after Biden got reinfected
Because it was only 9 days after originally testing positive, it's much more likely that it's a Paxlovid rebound than that Biden got reinfected. He only tested positive after completing the 5-day Paxlovid treatment, after which a significant amount of people end up testing positive again.
Given that, I don't know why they don't just make the treatment longer than 5 days. Maybe 5 days makes it easier to meet demand?
