throwaway acct for opsec

hey comrades, im currently working my first full time job and i need some advice. i just got a stem BS and am working as a contract employee for a large corporation. i plan on saving up and going back to school but with inflation i need a higher wage bc i dont have a lot of money and i have to move to go to school.

what do you think the best way to ask for a raise would be? my contract lapses in 3 months but i do good work and my supervisor and other staff acknowledge that. i make way less than all of them so i think a raise is justified after showing my value to the team throughout my contract. today i talked to a coworker who has been there for over 10 years and he said to extend my contract i should talk to my direct supervisor and he would ask our manager to extend my contract. i didnt mention a raise to him but it seems definite that i will get my contract extended. should i tell my supervisor that i want a pay increase in my contract or should i wait until my manager or staffing agency contacts me about the extension?

also, i wont be working here long so i dont know how viable trying to unionize would be. but do you all have any advice on planting seeds that would help accelerate unionization. its a very :lmayo: workforce with many PMCs so its very much an uphill battle

also everyone join the SRA!! i dont live in a big city so there arent any other orgs near me. hopefully i can join a bigger org once i move for grad school but im still gonna organize with SRA

my coworkers and manager know i plan on going to grad school in a year and a half. but if i can get a direct hire with no staffing agency and i get a higher wage i might work for them FT now and PT in grad school since they have tuition assistance for non contract employees, which is useful bc i plan on doing 2nd BS, MS, and PhD. but i will mention it to my supervisor for sure, thank you!
