    technically a lot of the early anti-capitalism movements were reactionary against capitalism.

    the idea of forces of progress and reaction comes from modernism which wasn't so much an idea of Marx's as it was an idea that was around at the time. If you don't accept the modernist idea that there is a definite endpoint which society is moving towards then the phrases reactionary and progressive become meaningless
