        If you need a gemologist with a literal laboratory to tell whether a diamond or pearl are grown in a lab then "fake" stuff has the exact same utility for jewelry. Folx, nobody's coming up to you with a loupe and a microscope asking to examine your necklace to determine if it looks nice on you!

      The only legitimate reason to have expensive jewelry is to have portable wealth if you need to flee as a refugee.

        diamonds are way less useful as wealth than gold. You need an expert to tell if they're worth anything as well as the paperwork to prove it.

        You can take 10K in gold across borders illegally and it's still worth more or less 10K
