what's the point?
i started with a friend recently and we got a base going and we played for 3 days amassing supplies to try to learn ONE blueprint (still like 12 blueprints from learning how to make a revolver or anything useful) and everybody on the server has helicopters and AKs and bombs. i played til 2AM last night and nearly learned my first blueprint and then I wake up this morning to two sheet metal doors with code locks just gone (blown up I guess?) and new locks and i'm locked out of my house. we built 4 bases over the last 3 days and i checked all 4 last night. this morning ALL 4 ARE GONE AND DESTROYED. in 10 hours while i slept. lost everything for 3 days of playing (like 12 hours) and i'm back to square one with literally no recourse. i still know ZERO blueprints and i'm shit all in the world. if this game expects me to grind out another 12 hours to maybe learn how to make a hammer i'll never use you've got to be fucking kidding me. been trying to play this game for 2 weeks and the server is gonna wipe soon and everybody has guns and i still can't understand how to make even a bean grenade or a hammer out of scrap. this is absolutely ridiculous.
is this a game or a career?
does this game just hate it's players? how do you catch up to people who have AKs and shit when I can't even build a hammer? what the fuck? this has got to be the worst game i've ever played by an insane margin. apparently sleeping in real life means you lose everything. how is this fun? i just want even a tiny chance at success but i'm playing against people who have teams of 10 people building massive castles with bombs and guns and fucking AIR SUPPORT while i'm naked with a rock barely able to build a couple shacks for bases. holy shit it's infuriating the lack of respect this game has for the time i've invested. like, the developers shit on me for wanting to play their game. feels like they want me to fuck all the way off and never play this game so i guess i'll take the hint.
this is a game made by people who live on their computers for people who shit in their own pants so they can game longer.

I bought it a few months ago because it looks fun when people are playing it in youtube videos but holy crap.
They edit out the part where you spawn in, its night time, its pitch black, you don't even know the buttons and you're bludgeoned to death before you can even figure out which way is up.
I never even got to the point where I had to sink hours to upgrade my base or whatever. Way more masochistic than Dark Souls imo.
i feel robbed of my time if i'm totally honest like i find myself actively angry at the developers and the community for being so toxic to new players. i PAID for this game. i want to have a chance to experience it. the only way to succeed in this game is to not be the new guy so this seems like a game made for the same 10 people to play together amongst themselves forever. how does this game get new players ever? it's literally impossible to progress.
like i feel like my time has been wasted after i bought a game. i feel robbed of my time and money and i feel like what i paid for was a bunch of anxiety and anger and just general unpleasantness that wasn't in my life before I PAID THESE FUCKING DEVELOPERS MONEY to make my life palpably worse.
so yeah, the game gets deleted and i want everyone to know what a waste of money the game is. fuck anybody who sells a game like this is good faith without explaining that starting is impossible if you didn't start when the game was released or you have 24/7 to play.
they should be paying ME to play this fucking garbage. like i hated no mans sky for all the lies and manipulation with marketing and scamming me into a game i didn't expect to be playing that was buggy as fuck, but rust is a) the laggiest game on my ps4 by FAR b) the buggiest game on my ps4 by FAR and c) the cruelest and most toxic game i've literally ever played.

yeah, prior to playing rust, no mans sky was my most hated game. and not because it's bad--it's not in theory. it's just that every single thing it promised ended up being a hoax. my friend and i traveled for 2 weeks when the game came out to find each other and when we did we couldn't see each other. then we could see each other but not interact, then a new update let us build bases together but when we joined the other person's base it would glitch out and we would get stuck in walls, then they said they updated base sizes and we tried again with the same glitch. 2 years later we tried again and i still can't see half my friend's base that he promises exists and i end up getting stuck inbetween walls when i walk through doors. like, this game is 5 years old now. holy fuck.
but rust is a special kind of hatred. rust punishes you for wanting to interact with it, similarly to no mans sky, but rust isn't doing it unintentionally, it's built into the game. just the worst kind of sado/masochistic endless circle of toxic garbage. like i see why it attracts people who play literally 20 hours a day. and even if you go to sleep for 4 hours it only takes like 2 mins to lose everything anyway. we lost our first base in 2 mins while we panicked inside and some asshole burned us to the ground. it's just endless like this.

Dark Souls is harsh, but generally fair, and gives you incremental challenges so you can gradually build a sense of mastery.
