That's how it works really, they build up a reputation as being factual and trustworthy with the fun science stuff and then they'll dip their toes into social commentary and slowly transition riding off that trust from when they were doing more fun science stuff to launder a bunch of garbage ideas. They got a big cash injection from Gates back around when they started making videos and they'll insist that it wasn't that much money and that it was their hard work to build up an 80 person company to make these videos, but who the fuck has the money to start out and pay people enough to make that high quality of videos out of nowhere, getting more cash just set them up to take the stage eventually since most other people talking about this stuff are generally scientists or hobbyists doing a one man show. John Michael Godier is an author that puts out a bunch of videos on the Fermi Paradox and after a while you recognize his repertoire of B-roll and that it's generally just there as moving pictures while the majority is just him talking about stuff. Isaac Arthur is bigger and I think he gets some commissioned stuff for his videos but he's also a 40 minute video type guy which doesn't translate to the bite sized and quickly digestible stuff that Kurzgesagt throws out on a frequent basis.
