The “wow science” thing is mostly coming from videos like The Egg which is just a cover and doesn’t put forth any ideas further than “wow universe big and consciousness mysterious” just like their viewers who will not continue to think beyond after their YouTube videos finish playing
Adapting a good short story to video is a good thing.
A science channel adapting an interesting sci-fi story is pretty sensible, as long as it's clear that the story is sci-fi.
Every time they say “don’t panic”, substitute it with “do panic”, and it’s closer to the truth
I remember when :reddit-logo: was up in arms about a YouTuber exposing Kurzgesagt for having very incorrect information and then covering it up after the YouTuber asked for an interview about it. But then it turned out the accusing YouTuber made internet drama videos so reddit was happy to completely forget about the unethical nonsense Kurz has done. I don't know where I'm going with this but yeah, Kurzgesagt sucks, :reddit-logo: sucks, and I haven't slept in 48 hours.
That's how it works really, they build up a reputation as being factual and trustworthy with the fun science stuff and then they'll dip their toes into social commentary and slowly transition riding off that trust from when they were doing more fun science stuff to launder a bunch of garbage ideas. They got a big cash injection from Gates back around when they started making videos and they'll insist that it wasn't that much money and that it was their hard work to build up an 80 person company to make these videos, but who the fuck has the money to start out and pay people enough to make that high quality of videos out of nowhere, getting more cash just set them up to take the stage eventually since most other people talking about this stuff are generally scientists or hobbyists doing a one man show. John Michael Godier is an author that puts out a bunch of videos on the Fermi Paradox and after a while you recognize his repertoire of B-roll and that it's generally just there as moving pictures while the majority is just him talking about stuff. Isaac Arthur is bigger and I think he gets some commissioned stuff for his videos but he's also a 40 minute video type guy which doesn't translate to the bite sized and quickly digestible stuff that Kurzgesagt throws out on a frequent basis.

Hey look, it's the trajectory of every major newspaper under capitalism.
Don't worry about climate change, people have been making energy efficient light bulbs!
I used to have notifications set up for their videos, and I’d watch a new one within minutes of release. I’m still subscribed now but I only watch like 1/3rd of what they put out because I first run the concept through an anti-billionaire-pedophile filter to think of if that topic could be pushing bullshit.
Climate change or disease outbreaks? Fuck no. What would happen if the moon crashed into the Earth? Good question, let’s find out.

I don't want to alarm anybody, but we should find out if Bill Gates has a working gravity ray with which he could crash the moon into the earth.
This was always going to be where that channel terminated. All of the technocrat-tinged YouTube channels are suspect as fuck. Materialism as understood by the left shouldn't reduce down to vulgar scientism
Their horrors of nuclear war video was one of the last ones I watched and liked.
My translator app says in English their name means “in short”, more like in SHART lmao
I like the old kurzgesagt
"we like black holes" kurzgesagt
"didn't you know" kurzgesagt
i hate the new kurzgesagt
"things are okay" kurzgesagt
"the rich are good" kurzgesagt
so i saw that thread yesterday about 'longtermism' and then i just watched that kurzgesagt video about the end of humanity because of this thread and at the end it said the video was inspired by will mcaskill who is the longtermism guy. i was wondering why such a stupid take would get an article yesterday when i read the longtermism thing, like what a dumb idea and what a low hanging fruit idea, but now i get it. they're pushing this dude because he's normalizing kind of 'suffering through this shit' with the idea being that we'll all be okay with the state of the world if we adopt will's attitude and just know that even though we're getting obliterated by capitalism our great great great great great great great great great grandkids might be ok a little bit.
Probably buy all the proprietary feature phone operating systems and make them open source.
